I am a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, with a bfa in illustration. I adored RISD- it was a place of mental and inspirational freedom, and all were encouraged to be themselves. (How fun to stand in painting class in black skirts and tall shiny boots~ helps embellish the creativity.) I do not believe art should be isolated from parts of itself, nor from other subjects of study, (same goes for people), and a person who is well rounded makes for the most successful artist. Or at least for the more interesting.

Before RISD I spent three previous years at the University of Cincinnati, in the graphic design program at DAAP. This did not quite satisfy my key artistic needs, (I will hold on to those interesting stories for now) but it did teach me many 'practical' skills that would later be quite beneficial. (You know, the ones that make artists run away with their arms flailing, like marketing and writing html code.) I also spent six months at a co-op for Hasbro Toy Group, and got to watch nerf wars in the cubicle isles and was able to display my transformers battling collector-edition-batman at my desk. I also learned a lot from a group of impressive people.

Art is my path to the spiritual, one that grants a language for the secret places within and reflects them into a tangible form. Going further would take too much art-jargon to truly give this a proper definition, and it is more important for the work to evoke impressions that are not held fixed by the boundaries of words.
